What to expect
Plan your visit.
Schuk Toak—meaning Sacred Mountain in the Tohono O'odham language—is the visitor center for El Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve. Indoor exhibits introduce the reserve's volcanic history, plants, wildlife, cultural heritage, and conservation work.
Outside, visitors can experience the surrounding lava landscape, botanical areas, interpretive trails, and views toward the great sand dunes. Opening days, access roads, fees, and trail conditions can change, so confirm with reserve staff before leaving Rocky Point.
