Does Rocky Point have an airport?
Yes. Mar de Cortés International Airport, airport code PPE, serves Puerto Peñasco. Its official website places it about 30 kilometers southeast of Puerto Peñasco and roughly 100 kilometers from the U.S.–Mexico border.
The facility supports international operations, private aircraft and charter flights. An airport can be fully operational without daily scheduled airline service, so always check the airport’s current passenger page and the operator directly before building a trip around a flight.

Option 1: Fly to Phoenix Sky Harbor and continue by road

The road trip is roughly 220 miles and should be planned as a four- to five-hour trip before heavy border delays. The recognized route passes through Gila Bend, Ajo and Why to Lukeville, then continues from Sonoyta on Mexico Federal Highway 8 to Puerto Peñasco.
Before renting, obtain written confirmation that the company permits Mexico travel, the specific vehicle may cross, Mexican liability coverage is included or available, and the required documents will be provided. Many U.S. rental agreements prohibit Mexico travel.
Option 2: Fly to Tucson and continue by road
Tucson International Airport (TUS) can be a useful alternative when the airfare or schedule is better. The airport currently lists Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Sun Country and United.
The drive is also approximately 220 miles, normally using Arizona roads toward Ajo and Lukeville before entering Mexico at Sonoyta. Compare the complete door-to-door cost: a lower fare may become more expensive after a one-way rental, Mexico permission, insurance or private transfer.

As of August 26, 2026, Westwind posts a starting package of $4,900 plus tax for a three-day/two-night charter. Prices, availability, taxes, baggage limits and documents can change, so obtain a written quote before making nonrefundable lodging plans.
A charter can make sense for a family, wedding party, executive group or several couples sharing the total cost. It is usually not economical for one or two travelers.

How do you get from PPE airport to Rocky Point?
Mar de Cortés International Airport is outside the city, so every arriving passenger needs a transfer plan. Current airport information lists taxis, rental cars by reservation and parking for private vehicles.
