What is Día de los Muertos?
Día de los Muertos is a Mexican tradition that honors family members and friends who have died. Altars, photographs, marigolds, candles, favorite foods, music, art, and Catrina imagery create a celebration centered on memory, family, and culture—not a Mexican version of Halloween.
What can visitors expect in Puerto Peñasco?
The city’s Altars and Catrinas celebration transforms the Rodeo Drive artisan market with color and community activity. Previous editions have included decorated altars, Catrina presentations, art, food, music, and family-friendly cultural activities. The detailed 2026 program may be announced closer to the event.
- Community altars and traditional decorations
- Catrina costumes and artistic presentations
- Local artisans, food, and family activities
- Evening crowds and limited nearby parking
How to attend respectfully
Visitors are welcome to enjoy the celebration, but the altars may honor real people and carry deep meaning for their families. Ask before closely photographing participants or personal altar details, do not touch offerings, and give ceremonies and families room.
Getting there and what to bring
Calle 32’s Mercado de Artesanías is northeast of the main resort district. Use a designated driver or taxi if you plan to drink, wear comfortable shoes, carry a light layer for the evening, and bring pesos for small purchases. Arrive early for easier parking and daylight browsing.
